Apologies for silence

12/09/2008

We are waging a bitter battle against the Alderman for Education of our city, who has changed the rules with regard to registration. All of a sudden, it would seem that we will have to look for another school in two years from now, as we live 1.9 km from door to door, and anyone who lives closer has priority.

I invite you to look at those digits again. Yes: 1.9 km. Not 5, not ten, just two...

When we were looking for the boy to start reception class we wanted him to carry on at the same school as he was going to for nursery. We lived 450m away and the furthest person they took that year was at 300m. I know of another blogger who actually bought and moved house to get her son into the school they wanted.

You mean to say that this rule isn't for new applicants for the school, but also for the already registered?(so to speak).

It's strange and absurd what parents have to do to get their kids into a good school... not normal really.

What with people sleeping in front of the school gates to get their child registered into a school, and this apparently big fuss about a couple of centimetres, I think that ‘Getting your child registered into a school’ should be considered as a Olympic sport.

@Glowstars: we are thinking about renting an apartment together with a bunch of parents for a bell and mailbox.
@Fero: we were pressured into signing a document last year halfway through the year.
@Wildcard: it's not even about a good school. It's about a school that suits your child and you.
@Fresco: oh honey, I have ran the marathon twice this week.
