I'm starting to like this gym thingy

03/04/2008

Soooo, I've been to the gym twice this week and I'm beginning to like this gym thingy. Okay, I'll fess up to still not being able to go anywhere near the locker room except to put my things in said locker, and God forbid that I should go anywhere near the showers (I'm sorry, but I have public hygiene issues as a result of never being sent to brownies) but the equipment...

Initially, my first thought was that this was a different take on a dungeon. Except, of course, there are no hot women in latex or leather strolling around, no women in handcuffs or other kinky restraints, and everyone looks distinctly sweaty.

But I've discovered something interesting: I'm loving me some treadmill time. In fact, I don't even want to get off the damn thing and I find myself hogging it for 20 minutes at a time.

Interesting. I go back on Saturday for my next hit.

Help, I've become a gym junkie.

ETA: it's an all women's gym by the way.

I know exactly what you mean about the hygiene-thing. There's gym here called "24 Hour Fitness," but the locker room was crowded and the showers scummy. Blech! It just was so uncomfy. That was many years ago.

Our community hospital sponsors a fitness club that also provides physical therapy for their patients. It's wonderful. Always clean, the staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and it is not very expensive (although a bit more than 24HF.

I love me some gym-time! Getting hooked...

an all-women's gym? I wish they had one of those in Gent. maybe they have but not that I know of...
ours is a regular unisex one, with the sweaty dudes to match!

Keep stretching that gorgeous pair of legs.

Loosen up the shoulders.

Release your hip.

Hmm, can smell the aroma developing in your pusskitchen.

Sweat it out.
We're with you!

LOL. You've got the bug now eh! I never exercised or even ventured into a gym for a long, long, long time. I thought I would be the last person in the world to do so. Now that I have (and I've been going regularly for the last 12 months or so), it now feels a natural/normal part of life. It's really good for the body to workout and it does improve your overall physical and mental health, I'm sure of it.

Also, seeing yourself improve (i.e. starting out not being able to do much, but gradually improving over time) is part of the appeal. I couldn't run at all at school but now I really enjoy the treadmill.

Stick with it (there are always ups and downs with it).

@deboo: yes, I didn't realise that one could get addicted this quickly.

@Luscious: passage fitness women only. I think there's one in Brussels too. It tends to attract a lot of muslim women, as they feel more relaxed without the prying glances of men. Although I'm no Col. Davis...

@Fero: oh, don't worry! Thanks for the Betty Page vid! ROFL.

@Sig: I found myself actually getting all annoyed this morning at the thought that I wouldn't be able to go today. Pathetic. I'll see the results once I start biking the munchkin back to school next week, since the Easter break is slowly drawing to a close. Did you get a trainer to help you?

No I've never got round to using a trainer though I ought to have done as you get your first session free. I've seen them with other people and some of what they get people to do is a bit OTT for my liking (prancing up and down the length of the gym swinging this gym ball thing around and I'm hot keen on drawing that much attention to myself). I do mostly cardio (bike, rower, X-trainer, treadmill) and just a few weight machines (but these get so busy I don't tend to use them as much as I might).

Well done! I really got into it again but haven't been at all for about 6 weeks, thanks to depression and then illness. Will start again now ST is back at playschool (yay for playschool!).
