The babe's first sit-down opera

12/01/2008

and she actually managed to sit still for most of it until the dancers came on and we were all summoned to the dance...

Thanks to polly at lesbiandad.net who not only provided me with a madeleine moment but who had the whole family dancing in the living room this evening.

'Oh, Amahl is helemaal alleen' (Amahl is all on his own)... After the last notes died out, she said, can we watch it again? So without further ado, here is Amahl and the Night Visitors.

Because you can never have too much music in your life. Even at the age of three. Next stop: Peter and the Wolf.

Go baby go! Go baby go!

After Peter and the Wolf, what's to stop you from barelling on to Humperdink's Hansel and Gretel? I just have to warn you that Menotti's other "opera for children," Help! Help! The Globolinks is SCARY. I mean, children screaming. Weird, mummenschanz-y outer space invaders. It's an acid trip. Our girlie's grampy gave her the DVD of it for her birthday last year and we haven't quite gotten over it.

We laughed, because in the hospital at birth, she waved her arms to the classic music (when she actually deigned to wake up for ten seconds). Afterwards it was all downhill with a babe who was awake 11 out of 24 hours... but she still loves music and the school builds its curriculum around it from kindergarten onwards. They sing for everything, even lunch.

Thanks for the music tips. We will give everything a try.

Your eldest is also from September 2004!
